VT EM824 - THE ANT TRS 800 Channel Strip

When it comes to Telefunken, not many words need to be said. Since the early days of broadcast technology, Telefunken has been the global market leader in this field. Iconic devices such as the V76f microphone amplifier in tube technology, later the first devices based on transistor technology from the V600 series, such as the V676a microphone preamplifier, and many other devices that are now sought-after classics, are thanks to this company. When Telefunken separated from its professional audio division in the mid-1980s, the same employees at the same location continued to build exactly the same devices with the same quality. This was done under the name ANT. In the mid-1990s, ANT also had to close its doors.

In this short decade, two interesting mixing consoles were developed by ANT: the small TRS 700 and the large TRS 800. The channel strip of this mixing console sounds absolutely excellent. The input section is strongly reminiscent of the Telefunken V676b. The same large ring transformer was used at the input. The equalizer also sounds excellent and is built with high quality. In this form, the equalizer is not available in a separate Danner cassette. It is exclusively available in this channel strip.

Vintagetools now offers a solution with the VT EM824 rack to operate this analog classic in a 19” enclosure. The high-quality power supply, developed by us and manufactured in Germany, is 100% analog but features automatic voltage detection at the input, similar to a switch-mode power supply. Voltages from 100–230 V can be directly applied to the power input plug. An external voltage selector switch is no longer necessary. Since the channel strip already provides a symmetrical line-level output, our new SIMAMP1 is not used here.

Features:

• Transformer-symmetrical microphone preamp with 70 dB gain
• Transformer-symmetrical line preamp with 20 dB gain
• 3-band EQ with three semi-parametric bands, each with six fixed frequencies
• ±16dB boost or cut for each frequency band
• Tunable high-pass filter: 40Hz - 200Hz
• Phase inversion
• EQ bypass switch: The equalizer can be switched in fully or individually per band
• Symmetrical high-level output
• Redesigned analog power supply with 100V to 240V AC input. No external voltage selector switch needed!
• XLR inputs: Line and microphone (separately)
• XLR output: Symmetrical

Secure one of these limited racks to experience the authentic sound of a classic EMT channel strip combined with the reliability of modern technology.
