We are offering a rare and very well-preserved Neumann M49b tube microphone from the 1950s. Since the original capsule needs refurbishment, we have installed a brand-new, never-used Neumann K49 capsule. The microphone sounds incredible with this new capsule—it’s the best sounding M49b we've had in the shop and studio so far. The N52 power supply has been inspected, with some worn parts replaced, and then calibrated.
The Neumann M49 was the first studio microphone with continuously variable polar patterns. It was developed by Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk (NWDR) and was first released in 1949 in a small series of around 30 units under the model name B-M49. From 1951, the microphone was manufactured by Neumann Berlin and was used in all public broadcasting and television studios for many years. The M49 used the same large-diaphragm capsule as the U 47 and is now one of the most sought-after tube microphones of all time. Popular in pop, rock, jazz, and classical music alike, the M49/M49b consistently delivers a very warm, rounded sound with a beautiful top end.
• Neumann M49b large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone
• Neumann K49 capsule (unused and stored in its original box before installation in August 2024)
• Telefunken AC701 tube in perfect condition
• Original circuitry (no modifications)
